State jumps on board
The future is looking bright in the Paroo Shire, with Cunnamulla’s historic railway station slated for a major transformation, after funding was granted by the Queensland Government.
The Paroo Progress Association was behind the bid for upgrades to the tourist attraction, and Association president Karen Ticehurst said the station’s facelift will benefit all of Cunnamulla.
“The railway has always played an important role in the region’s social and economic development, and with this new project this is only set to continue.
“We [Paroo Progress Association] are hoping to run the show twice a night in tourist season and once a night in the off season.
“We want to keep tourists in town overnight, bringing more money in to the local economy.
“As time goes on, there could be opportunities to update or change the presentation, perhaps introducing new topics that would appeal to the target market,” she said.
