Stay active all winter
Come rain or shine, getting outside has huge benefits for mental and physical health. Try these ideas to get active with the kids this month
Head to the woods for a campfire
Get the kids to collect sticks to build a campfire. You don’t have to light it, just use your imagination. Push marshmallows onto clean twigs for pretend toasting, and take a flask of hot chocolate.
Treasure hunts in nature
Draw boxes of different colours on pieces of paper, one for each member of the family. Head outside and search for items to match your colour, and take a bag with you to collect the items that are suitable to take home. Compare what you found over bowls of steaming soup to warm up your hands.
Orienteering
Children can get involved with reading maps and orienteering from a younger age than you might think. It’s is a great family activity and one that promotes confidence in children. Check out your local club for more details, and don’t forget to take snacks – a few energy bars will keep you going!
