I only hope that everyone will take note of Joanna Blythman’s article, ‘My charter for a brighter food future’ (Jan), and put it into practice. Me and my husband plan our meals and shop according to our needs. We have a very good local butcher, fishmonger and farm shop, and we bulk-buy meat and fish for the freezer. We keep a list of our freezer food, which includes any meals prepared in advance, and, where possible, buy fruit and veg according to the season – this is easy from our farm shop, as the majority of veg is grown on the farm. All our veg peelings go into the compost bin, and if we have any surplus veg, our dog has a veggie treat. Of course, for us, it’s easy to manage as we don’t have any children to accommodate various tastes. The way we shop (every two weeks) also reduces potential of infections.
