With fewer reusable cups and more single-use plastics in cafés, restaurants and bars in 2020, it might have felt like we went backwards in terms of sustainability last year, but we’re happy to see plenty of innovation in this area for 2021. As well as a rise in eco-friendly cleaning products (as mentioned opposite), Lakeland also reported an increase in searches and sales for eco-friendly food storage solutions, such as reusable food bags. One of the most exciting launches on the market this year is compostable cling ilm. Previously only made from hard-to-recycle plastics, this new product from Lakeland (£3.99) looks and works exactly like standard cling ilm, but can be put in your home compost bin after use and will break down within 12 months.
