What time of year are they grown? Are there di erent varieties?

-

Sow seeds inside in pots in January or February, and outdoors in a seedbed in March or April. They germinate at 7C, so an unheated greenhouse is ideal. Plant in their inal position from mid-spring to late-summer, and let them bulk up.

Earlies (harvested in late-summer/ autumn) have long, white shanks, like the Carlton variety. For a winter harvest, Longbow or Toledo have dark leaves above the shanks. With shorter shanks, Blue Solaise stand in the ground until mid-spring.
