Drink coffee, help the homeless

The speciality coffee social enterprise tackling homelessness

What if getting your daily caffeine fix could help the homeless? This is the idea behind London’s Second Shot Coffee – a speciality coffee social enterprise founded in 2016 by Julius Ibrahim (pictured). He explains, ‘I set up Second Shot because I wanted to expose the misconceptions around homelessness for what they are – misconceptions. At our coffee shops, we train and employ people affected by homelessness, and distribute free coffees, meals, hot water bottles and more to local rough sleepers. I hope that Second Shot serves as an example to show other operators in hospitality, or beyond that, good work doesn’t have to come at the sacrifice of quality. We make sure that we serve some of the best coffee you can find.’ Second Shot coffee now has two cafés in London, but you don’t have to live in the capital to support the cause and experience a taste of its speciality coffee. The company has recently launched its own range of coffee beans, which are available for nationwide delivery via the website. For every pack bought, the company donates a warm drink to a local rough sleeper, with the remaining profits going back into Second Shot Coffee, so that the business can continue to train others and tackle homelessness. secondshotcoffee.co.uk
