Good Food

Everyone’s best friends

Our dogs continue to make our time at home all the sweeter – something Great British Dogs, sponsored by Winalot®, has been finding out

-

As any dog owner will know, mealtimes are always a little different when you have a four-legged friend. Unless you’re lucky enough to have that rare pooch that will sit quietly while you eat, you’ll be all too familiar with the whining, jumping and sad eyes imploring you to share your dinner. Maybe yours even insists on watching you cook in the hope you accidentally drop some food on the floor.

And, when it comes to their own food, they’re very insistent on a routine. As it gets towards dinnertime, some dogs will start yelping, nudging and even dragging you to the kitchen. After all, the key ingredients to a dog’s happiness are food, walks and a loving family – and when they’re happy, they have a knack of spreading their joy, which has been like gold dust this past year.

The Great British Dogs website has seen this type of cheering story in droves. Readers’ dogs have been a huge comfort during this past year, providing hilarious and heart-warming moments, and even performing amazing acts of courage. You can read all of these inspiring stories for yourself on the website, as well as that of Team GB Paralympic triathlete, TV star and Great British Dogs ambassador, Lauren Steadman and her German shepherd Meric Belle.

“It’s been great to have Meric Belle during lockdown. I’ll be working and she’ll just look at me and we’ll go for a walk – it just helps to reset me. She’s always there for a cuddle with totally unconditional love. She just wants to be near you,” she says. “This year’s entries have been incredible. My dog has made this past year so much easier for me, and it’s been so uplifting to see thousands of others say the same on the Great British Dogs site.”

So, if you’ve got a funny tale of doggy escapades with a barbecued sausage, or a story to warm the cockles of the heart, send it in for your chance to win some amazing dog-themed prizes, including a personalised hamper and some Winalot® pouches rich in beef, chicken or lamb with vegetables mixed in jelly.
