Tesco Finest Montagne St Emilion 2019 France (£9, Tesco) A robust and juicy red from Bordeaux’s St Emilion, this is one to hunker down with in autumn. Lovely with guinea fowl (p96).

Casanova Costa d’oru Corsican Rosé 2020 France (£7.50, Co-op) In winter I pick chianti to drink with hearty soups like ribollita (p106), but rosé is a good fit for autumn.
