Food connections
The Good Food Together community connects people who are sharing their lives and recipes, like Brent and James.
Brent Cruickshank from Aberdeenshire regularly posts the brilliant meals he shares with his husband in the group, alongside snapshots of their life in the countryside.
Lene Mariager Davis, from Shropshire, encouraged her son James, who has autism, to join the group when he began university, as he was worried about what he’d eat. While Lene could send recipes to her daughter, for James, these are harder to follow. That’s when he came across Brent’s posts. Since then, James has become a whizz in the kitchen. He finds Brent’s ideas easy to follow because ‘he posts pictures of the ingredients and what he does, without the words – it means I don’t get confused.’
Lene says, ‘I could have cried because it’s a huge step. Most things he cooks are from Brent. He’s also watching Youtube videos of how to cook things. Once a week, he and his housemates eat together – they chip in for the shopping and James cooks. They even buy wine recommended by Brent!’
