ESSENTIAL BUYS FOR JANUARY
• Zhoug paste If you’re reducing fat or salt this January, this fresh, spicy chilli herb paste could be just the thing to liven up your winter salads.
• Canned fish Tuna, sardines and anchovies are a great source of omega fatty acids, and a more sustainable way to eat fish all year round. Look for good-quality fish packed in oil.
• Ginger Essential for blasting those winter coughs and colds, make a fiery syrup by warming ginger, honey, lemon peel and black pepper until steaming. Store in the fridge for a few weeks and add a drizzle to hot water whenever you need a boost.
• Hemp seeds These delicious seeds are packed with omega fatty acids, protein and fibre, but they are often overlooked for sesame, poppy and, more recently, chia seeds. They have a subtle nutty flavour, perfect for sprinkling on salads or porridge, or used in fruity protein balls.
