A SLICE OF NOSTALGIA

-

Back-to-school season is upon us, and members of the group have been getting nostalgic about their favourite lunchtime school meals. What are your favourite school puddings?

Cornflake tart and custard – I still make this one occasionally for my sons and daughter. They love it, and they’re in their 30s with kids of their own. Nadine Aucote

I’m from the US, so we didn’t have much in the way of desserts, but in high school, there was a small snack shop run by students that sold frozen chocolate chip cookie dough at break times. It was always a bit of a heated competition to get some before it sold out!

I went to school in Canada – we had cafeteria muns that I still crave today. Those mun tops were so tasty.

I once shocked the head dinner lady by asking for the recipe for her chocolate rice crispies traybake! I think it was the first time a kid had wanted a recipe from the school dinner menu (my mother was a terrible cook – I thought school dinners were amazing!).
