PURPLE SPROUTING BROCCOLI

-

WHAT TO LOOK FOR? Choose broccoli with dark green leaves and purple florets. Discard any plants with yellowy florets or wilted leaves.

WHEN ARE THEY IN SEASON? February to April is the usual time for harvesting purple sprouting broccoli, but you may also find a crop between August and October.

OTHER IDEAS

Purple sprouting broccoli is great steamed, as it’s less likely to lose its purple colour. It’s a great side drizzled with olive oil or flavoured with ingredients like garlic and lemon. For something a little different, try baking it in a gratin or using it in a tart.
