INTERIOR DESIGNER Greg Natale (pictured, with Belle interior design editor Lucy Mccabe) has advice on choosing occasional chairs. “I’m not a fan of matching sofas with their respective armchairs. Selecting complementary, but not matching, styles contributes to a more dynamic environment. When arranging a layout, pair armchairs of the same style – this then helps bring a little balance. Keep sofas cleaner, in block colours, and splash out with colour and pattern on the occasional chairs so they become accents. Never leave an occasional chair floating – pair it with another chair or a side table – we all need a friend!” Greg’s pick? “Gio Ponti’s ‘Via Dezza’ chair is a favourite, which he designed for his own home in Milan in 1953. It’s so contemporary and incredibly elegant and exhibits a robustness that promises a comfortable sitting experience. It makes a statement as much now as it did in the 50s.” gregna
