HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE THIS SPACE? My desk is in a beautiful whitewashed room filled with treasures, above our Melbourne showroom in a charming 1880s terrace. WHAT INITIALLY APPEALED TO Y OU A BOUT T HIS S PACE? The airy proportions of the room at nine metres long with a soaring ve metre-high raked ceiling. WHAT ARE YOUR DESK ESSENTIALS? Recently I created Nine Muses Textiles so on my desk are notebooks, sketchbooks and pots of brushes and paints I use to create the designs inspired by travels to India, Istanbul and Morocco. There, centuries-old pattern and detail is found on every surface yet it still looks modern and fresh in today’s schemes. DOES YOUR OFFICE REFLECT YOUR WORK? I spend a lot of time travelling, researching the best of the best fabrics available globally to bring back to share with the Australian design community. DESCRIBE YOUR VIEW? My view is internal with beautiful textiles and walls lled with artworks from my travels and family paintings including works from my great-grandfather Bernard Hall, who was director of the National Gallery and started the National Gallery School. DESCRIBE A T YPICAL DAY? I rise at 5.30am, excited about my day. I love the time to think and write up my daily to-do list. I go for a walk to stretch and energise my mind and body, then I spend the day in the Melbourne or Sydney showroom or meet clients at their studios. In the evening I make calls abroad and to wind down I might take in a show or entertain at home experimenting with the latest Ottolenghi recipes, which I love. I’m focused on building my Nine Muses fabric collection and also working on Como by Design. WHAT IS COMO BY D ESIGN? It’s an interior design event at National Trust property Como House in Melbourne’s South Yarra. We have such amazing talent here and this is a platform to showcase 20 of our talented interior designers. Each will install an original interior into one of the Como House rooms. This ticketed event also features talks by design luminaries such as the UK’S Nina Campbell. WILL YOU BE DESIGNING ONE OF THE ROOMS AND HAVE YOU WORKED O UT A THEME? I will have a small corner to share my Nine Muses Textiles collection and treasures I have been working with. Como by Design will also feature seminars, market stalls and other events at Como House from October 19–21. comobydesign.com; tiggerhall.com.au; ninemusestextiles.com.
