HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR OFFICE? My office is in a building in Sydney that used to be an old bank – the space isn’t large but has volume, excellent proportions, beautiful light and great walls for art. WHAT INITIALLY APPEALED TO YOU ABOUT THE

SPACE? DID IT REQUIRE SIGNIFICANT ALTERATIONS? The building is close to my home in the inner city and didn’t require much work. The main appeal was the space itself – the perfect size to hold my art talks. WHAT ARE YOUR DE SK / WORKS PACE ESSENTIALS? Laptop, spirit level, tape measure and the enormous archive of photos on my phone. WHAT IS UNIQUE REFLECT THE WORK THAT YOU DO? The workspace is really comfy and feels more like a domestic space than an office. It reminds clients that everyone’s art journey is different, and they get a small taste of my own. DESCRIBE THE VIEW? I have a wall of windows with views of the city and south to the airport, and a beautiful row of mature trees – a bit of everything. DESCRIBE A TYPICAL DAY? I am up very early and communicating with New York; then to my office or zipping around on my Vespa seeing clients or exhibitions at galleries and museums. There is always much forward planning: future art fairs and biennales, travel schedules, and a lot of logistics for my clients’ art collections. YOUR OFFICE TO ENTERTAIN CLIENTS? I love having them over. DE SK/ WORKSPACE OBJECT THAT YOU WOULD BUY RIGHT NOW? Any painting by Agnes Martin would do just fine. IF YOUR STUDIO WERE LOCATED ANYWHERE ELSE,

New York. WHAT PROJECTS ARE YOU LOOKING FORWARD TO IN THE COMING YEAR? Visiting two new art fairs: Taipei Dangdai, and Frieze Los Angeles, plus the Venice Biennale, attending as many museum shows around the globe as I can, and finding treasures for my beloved clients. I look forward to every day. markhughesart.com
