HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR SALON? A Tribeca luxe loft meets West Chelsea Gallery District, New York. WHAT INSPIRED THE INTERIORS? Ten years in New York and playing with hair in the most inspiring photo studios, open-plan creative spaces of Brooklyn, uber-rich hedge fund mansions in The Hamptons and everything in between inspired me no end. Being immersed in the city and the surrounding boroughs with all that wonderful architecture and design was really something. WHAT APPEALED TO YOU ABOUT THE SPACE? I waited about two years to find the right pocket of Surry Hills. There are few buildings I was interested in and when I heard from the owners of the Imperial Slacks building I jumped on it. I wanted a place that reflected my time in New York and a contemporary space that had history. WERE SIGNI F I CANT ALTERATIONS NEEDED? Being one of the highest heritage-listed buildings in Surry Hills my partner and I quickly learnt about the restrictions that go with it. But the obstacles were worth it and having Calida for the build and Joe Snell for the design made the process seamless. I gave them my vision and the fabrics I wanted and left them to do the rest. YOUR WORKSPACE ESSENTIALS? All I really need are my scissors, a comb, a few brushes and a hairdryer. Oh, and loads of natural light. WHAT IS UNIQUE ABOUT YOUR SPACE? The oversized, generous windows. It’s warm and inviting. Clear Perspex panels that lie beside the blond wood and raw concrete. The soundproof relaxation pod (washbasin room) with the relaxing sounds of Buddha Bar as you lie back in one of our fully reclinable Japanese flatbeds. Our reclaimed European oak floor. WHAT'S A TYPICAL WORK DAY? If I’m not on a photoshoot I’ll be in the salon with my creative team. I arrive well before the salon opens to punch out some emails, write any hair quotes for publications, and have any Facetime meetings. Then I’m on the floor with the clients who I adore. Once the salon is closed, I sit at my desk and finish off any loose ends before heading home. WHAT PROJECTS ARE YOU LOOKING FORWARD TO IN 2019? Taking time to enjoy the moment. I’ll be heading to Paris for Fashion Week and to New York for September’s Fashion Week.
