Donate to help animals
For just 24 hours tomorrow — October 4, World Animal Day — Benalla’s animal lovers can have four times the impact because every dollar donated to RSPCA Victoria’s ‘Give to Get Them Home’ appeal will be quadrupled by corporate partners and major donors.
RSPCA Victoria is launching the new appeal to help meet the cost of caring for more than 20 000 stray, seized and surrendered animals that come through its doors every year.
RSPCA Victoria chief executive officer Liz Walker said the charity relied on community donations for more than 95 per cent of funding and was hoping the community would get behind the new appeal and help it hit its target.
‘‘More than 20 680 neglected, abandoned and homeless animals came through the doors at RSPCA Victoria in the last 12 months, which equates to almost 60 per day,’’ Dr Walker said.
‘‘It’s generous donors that enable us to provide lifesaving treatment when the animals need it most.
‘‘Donations help fill their bellies with nutritious food and give them warm beds to curl up on.
‘‘This much-needed support from our community helps us provide everything that is needed to give these animals a second chance in a new, forever home — that’s why we’re asking people to give to get them home this World Animal Day and quadruple the difference they can make.’’
With almost 6000 animals expected to arrive in RSPCA Victoria shelters in the next three months, this fundraising effort means some animals will learn kindness for the first time.
A $100 donation can vaccinate a litter of puppies, keeping them safe when they’re most vulnerable, helping them be ready to find their forever home.
A $400 donation can equip volunteer foster carers with complete packs including everything they’ll need to help animals recover and learn to trust people again.
A $1000 donation can feed five rescued horses for a month in care, helping them gain weight and recover until they’re ready for a new home.
A $2000 donation can cover four rescued animals receiving emergency triage and assessment from a vet, with a complete series of tests to determine the best course of action, or provide emergency surgery including the medications and experienced vets required to save an animal’s life.
