Goul­burn Ovens In­sti­tute of TAFE Be­nalla is one of six cam­puses in north-east Vic­to­ria open­ing its doors to the pub­lic and prospec­tive stu­dents this month.

GOTAFE chief ex­ec­u­tive of­fi­cer Travis Heeney said the open days were an op­por­tu­nity for prospec­tive stu­dents to dis­cover a va­ri­ety of free cour­ses and view the fa­cil­i­ties in which they were taught.

‘‘This year we are open­ing up GOTAFE cam­puses across the re­gion over two week­ends to al­low ev­ery­one the chance to dis­cover train­ing op­por­tu­ni­ties avail­able for next year,’’ Mr Heeney said.

On Satur­day, Oc­to­ber 13, from 10 am un­til 2 pm, GOTAFE Be­nalla will host its open day.

Other open-days in the re­gion are:

Sey­mour Cam­pus, Wal­lis St, Satur­day, Oc­to­ber 13;

Shep­par­ton Cam­pus, Fry­ers St, Sun­day, Oc­to­ber 14;

Wer­ribee Cam­pus, Re­search Close, Satur­day, Oc­to­ber 20; and

Wan­garatta Cam­pus, Docker St, Sun­day, Oc­to­ber 21.

‘‘Open Days will pro­vide you with all of the in­for­ma­tion you need to take the next step to­wards your dream ca­reer,’’ Mr Heeney said.

‘‘Now with Free TAFE it is even eas­ier than ever to be­gin study.’’

Free TAFE en­sures el­i­gi­ble stu­dents from across the north east will be able to ac­cess free train­ing at GOTAFE in a range of cour­ses that lead to the most in-de­mand jobs in the state.

Through Free TAFE, the Vic­to­rian Govern­ment will cover tu­ition fees for 20 pri­or­ity TAFE cour­ses

●●●●and 18 pre-ap­pren­tice­ship cour­ses from Jan­uary 1, next year, for el­i­gi­ble stu­dents.

‘‘Un­til now, some peo­ple may not have been able to af­ford vo­ca­tional study,’’ Mr Heeney said.

‘‘Free TAFE re­moves the fi­nan­cial bar­rier for lo­cals want­ing to un­der­take qual­ity, ac­cred­ited TAFE train­ing that gives them the skills they need to se­cure real jobs build­ing our state and car­ing for our com­mu­nity.’’

Vic­to­ria’s un­prece­dented build­ing boom of road and rail projects, new schools and hos­pi­tals, as well as in­creased sup­port for Vic­to­ri­ans liv­ing with dis­abil­ity and his­toric ac­tion to curb fam­ily vi­o­lence has cre­ated a mas­sive de­mand for skilled work­ers.

More than ever, the skills re­quired for these high-de­mand jobs are learned at TAFE.

‘‘Open day is a chance for those think­ing about study to find out more,’’ Mr Heeney said.

‘‘Train­ers will be on hand show­cas­ing our pur­pose-built fa­cil­i­ties and sim­u­la­tion equip­ment, run­ning demon­stra­tion ac­tiv­i­ties and an­swer­ing all of your ques­tions.

‘‘Our Skills and Jobs Cen­tres will also be open, with ca­reer ad­vi­sors avail­able to as­sist with your course or job search.

‘‘GOTAFE is proud to of­fer these free pri­or­ity cour­ses and play our part in mak­ing sure all Vic­to­ri­ans can get the train­ing they need for a good job, build­ing our state.’’
