Morgan joins Magpies
Benalla’s Luke Morgan has been announced the newly-appointed coach of the Wangaratta Magpies for the 2019 season.
It comes after his decision to stand down as playing coach of the Benalla Saints after six years at the club.
Morgan said while it was difficult to step away from the Saints, he was excited for the new challenge that awaited him in the Ovens and Murray league.
‘‘It has been a difficult time and a tough decision,’’ Morgan said.
‘‘The Benalla Saints have been very good to me and allowed me to develop as a coach and I have spent a lot of my playing career there.
‘‘I played over 100 games with them, and at my current age I won’t play 100 games anywhere else.
‘‘I’m grateful to have been allowed to do that and have had great support along the way.
‘‘I’m excited for the new challenge and fresh start.’’
It will be somewhat of a return to Wangaratta for Morgan, who played for the Magpies back in 2011.
Morgan walks away from his time at the Saints with a Goulburn Valley League premiership, Morrison Medal and club Best and Fairest, as well as coaching the GVL interleague side.
Primed: Benalla’s Luke Morgan is set for his next challenge as coach of the Wangaratta Magpies.
