Trac­tors rip it up

A strong crowd of about 1000 streamed into Win­ton Mo­tor Race­way on Sun­day to wit­ness the first Aus­tralian Trac­tor Pull Event to hit Win­ton.

Driv­ers sent the dirt fly­ing in their new and vin­tage trac­tors, with some mak­ing the long jour­ney to hit the track.

Win­ton Mo­tor Race­way op­er­a­tions man­ager Wayne Wil­liams said two trac­tor own­ers from Corowa made their way on vin­tage ve­hi­cles, tak­ing three days to ar­rive in Win­ton.

He said it was a big event, with plenty of peo­ple com­ing to wit­ness the trac­tor spec­ta­cle.

‘‘It is def­i­nitely unique and be­ing the first time we can add an­other string to our bow,’’ Mr Wil­liams said.

‘‘We try to do dif­fer­ent.

‘‘We will def­i­nitely be do­ing it again next year.’’

Mr Wil­liams also said the event had the po­ten­tial to trans­form into a twi­light event, with spec­ta­tors able to come out for a night of trac­tor mad­ness.

With just two months left on the cal­en­dar, this week­end at Win­ton will see the RXA Aus­tralian Rally Cross Na­tion­als, fol­lowed the week­end af­ter by round six of the Aus­tralian Mo­tor Rac­ing Se­ries.

Thirty teams of Uni stu­dents from across the world will make and bring elec­tric cars to be com­pared and judged at the track.

‘‘It’s the only one of its kind in the world,’’ Mr Wil­liams said.
