Insight and feedback sought

-

Australian Rail Track Corporation representatives Olivia Whittaker and Nathan Kirkwood visited Benalla recently to speak to local commuters about the Inland Rail Project and the proposed upgrades to the North-East Line.

An ARTC spokesperson said the idea was to gain insight and feedback into these two projects.

‘‘As part of our ongoing engagement with the community ARTC teams visited Benalla, to gain feedback and insights, and share information, on the North-East Line upgrade and the Inland Rail (project),’’ the spokesperson said.

‘‘We received a range of feedback on both the projects from the community.

‘‘Overall they were positive about seeing further investment in rail, but they were also keen to learn how the projects might impact them.

‘‘With respect to the North-East Line upgrade, we start works early next year and it is important to hear from the community about their past experiences and concerns relating to passenger rail services and provide information around what we are doing and the aim of the $235 million project.

‘‘We are at the early design stages of the Inland Rail project, so this is an important time where the community can provide their feedback.

‘‘For the Benalla Station precinct, at this early design stage the Inland Rail project team believes a new road bridge at Benalla station is the best option to allow the safe passage of double stacked container trains.

‘‘Following input from stakeholders and agencies three options have been provided to the Benalla community to consider. That feedback will then help to inform further design development.’’

The team spoke to about 40 people at Benalla station during the two days.
