Leos donate $500
The Benalla Leo Club has donated $500 to assist Benalla Rural City outreach worker Ivan Lister support the community.
Benalla Leos president Keeley Marshall said the club wanted to help Ivan after learning of the work he did for the limited funding he received.
‘‘We raise money through events like sausage sizzles and we decided to take $500 from our fundraising efforts to help Ivan,’’ Keeley said.
‘‘At Christmas people need a bit more help than usual, so this money will enable Ivan to leave a voucher with families who are doing it tough.’’
Mr Lister said donations like this were what kept him going in what was a tough job.
‘‘It keeps me enthused to know I’m backed by the community and that’s really important for me to have that support,’’ Mr Lister said. ‘‘When I’m at someone’s property it’s really good to be able to leave something.
‘‘I can share a lot of advice, but sometimes I just think ‘oh no, I haven’t got anything to leave’, so to be able to leave them with a $50 voucher is a really good thing.
‘‘Some people might think that’s not much money, but to a lot of people it is.
‘‘It will buy some shopping or let them do something with the kids. It’s very important.
‘‘I’ve been given a cheque for $500 today. So that’s 10 families I can help with $50.
‘‘And the timing is good as we know that between now and Christmas a lot of families will be struggling.
‘‘I’ve asked the Leos to do up a little card with their logo, as it’s nice to show the community where the help is coming from.
‘‘They really appreciate who has made the donation.’’
Grateful: The Benalla Leo club has donated $500 to assist the work of local rural outreach worker Ivan Lister.
