Rapt to return to town hall
After an absence of 14 years the Benalla Theatre Company has announced it will return to Benalla Town Hall for its first production next year.
The local theatre group announced it was getting ready to put on a production of Robin the Hood in May.
Benalla Theatre Company’s Molly Craig said everyone involved was excited.
‘‘We are very much looking forward to gracing the stage of one of our town’s grandest buildings again,’’ Ms Craig said.
Company members recently met at the town hall to celebrate the return to a stage that has been performed on by the group and its predecessors since the 1950s.
‘‘Next year’s musical is Robin the Hood. It is the tale of Robin Hood trying to rescue his love Marion from the evil clutches of King John and the Sheriff of Snottingham,’’ Ms Craig said.
‘‘Throw in the Merry Men, a group of Greenies and the hoped-for return of the rightful King Richard, means that much hilarity and fun will ensue.
‘‘The style of show means that the town hall is the perfect place for Robin the Hood.’’
Cabaret seating with tables will be available for some performances and traditional theatre seating available for others, meaning that everyone can be accommodated.
Robin the Hood will be performed in late May with auditions to take place on February 3 and 4.
