Federal Member for Indi Cathy McGowan has congratulated Benalla council and the community for their efforts in securing an $18 125 Stronger Communities Program grant.
The money will be used to enhance the Benalla Lake precinct, including the installation of signage, improving the walking track and shared pathways, and installing bollards and accessible seating.
A water drinking fountain will also be installed at Benalla’s Adventure Park.
The project aims to increase connectedness, build and strengthen participation while building an active, inclusive, accessible, vibrant and viable community.
Ms McGowan said securing the grant came from an effective partnership between the community, local council and the Indi electorate office.
‘‘This project includes a number of features that will enhance local residents’ capacity to participate in community life,’’ Ms McGowan said.
‘‘It will also support tourism, helping the local economy.
‘‘There were a number of local community groups involved in developing this project and helping to secure funds.
‘‘Thanks to the Benalla Lions Club, Benalla Accessibility Reference Group, Benalla Craft Market Committee, Benalla NAIDOC Committee and the Benalla Riverine Parkland Advisory Committee for their efforts.’’
A total of $150 000 in funding has been allocated to Indi under round three of the program. For more of Rene’s photography, visit www.benallaensign.com.au or www.rensmartphotography.com
In Rene’s Region this week we thought we would mix it up a bit and instead of a series of photographs we would publish just one feature photo. We decided on this particular shot as it is a great illustration of north-east Victoria at this time of year. Rene snapped this one out at Winton Wetlands.
