Workers of the Bendigo Bank presented the Benalla Lions Club with a cheque to help fund this year’s Carols by Candlelight on Monday.

Carols by Candlelight organiser Lion Graham Milner said financial support was essential in order to make sure it remained a free event.

‘‘It’s extremely important that we know where our finances are coming from to be able to run a community event like Carols by Candlelight,’’ Mr Milner said.

‘‘The community carols is an event where people can come along and there is no cost at all.

‘‘All we ask for is a gold coin donation that covers some of our costs.’’

Bendigo Bank customer relationship officer Janelle Hossack said it was great to be able to support Carols by Candlelight.

‘‘We actually have a subsidiary called Community Sector Banking, they offer us funds for the products that we sign our customers up for,’’ Ms Hossack said.

‘‘We get a portion of that, and we were lucky enough to be able to allocate some of those funds to support Carols by Candlelight.

‘‘I think for Bendigo Bank its very important to support clubs like Lions and events like the carols because that’s our brand and what we do.’’

Carols by Candlelight will once again be held in the Botanical Gardens, on Sunday, December 16, from 7 pm.
