Heavy­weight gold won

For­mer Be­nalla lo­cal Mark Wil­liams re­cently took out gold at the Aus­tralian Masters Heavy­weight ti­tle at the 2018 Pan Pa­cific Games held on the Gold Coast.

Wil­liams com­peted in four gru­elling fights over con­sec­u­tive days to win the gold medal by ma­jor­ity de­ci­sion against Queens­lan­der Rob Vormis­ter.

Wil­liams be­gan his train­ing un­der the eye of lo­cal box­ing iden­tity Len Grif­fiths, who in­stalled in him a love of the sport as he learnt the craft.

Mark, the son of Tony and the late Pat Wil­liams, now re­sides in Mel­bourne.

Last week’s games saw Ram­page (team five) de­feat Rain­bow War­riors (team two) 122-92.

While in the other game, Rangers (team three) de­feated Rap­tors (team four) 122-111.

The on-call team this week is Rain­bow War­riors (team two). There was three, three-game win­ners last week with Ankit, Lois and Lyn.
