Meet the new committee
With Benalla’s famous Wall to Wall Art Festival only months away a new committee has been formed to oversee the everpopular event.
With a mix of new faces and returning members the committee has the difficult task of trying to better previous years.
Roxanne Demasson, chair
Roxanne has 14 years’ experience working in alcohol and drug service at Windama Drug and Alcohol recovery.
She also has six years’ experience as part of bushland partnership, Natural Land Management.
Roxanne spent two years on the Benalla Festival Advisory Committee and has spent five years volunteering with the Wall to Wall Festival. She is returning as chair for the second year.
Shannon Tharratt, vicechair
Shannon is a born and raised Benalla girl with a love of rural Victoria. She has a passion for discovering and bringing to life previously undiscovered or under-utilised creative spaces.
Shannon is a small business owner, operating One Wild Apple cafe.
She is a co-founder of Winton’s Under the Nest music festival, and is involved in coordinating local events.
Shannon is a returning member of the Wall to Wall International Festival committee, and was formally president of the St Vincent De Paul Outreach group.
Kirsty Wellard, secretary
Kirsty is small business owner running a catering company based in Glenrowan. She also produces and sells handmade kids aprons, tote/enviro bags, sewn goods and knitted beanies.
She previously owned and ran Bersty & Co in Wangaratta.
Kirsty is a qualified chef with 14 years’ experience.
She works at Pizzini Wines in Whitfield, helping to run their cooking school.
She has worked as far away as Canada and Ireland and as close as her home town of Benalla.
Kirsty is an avid lover of the arts, gardening and everything creative.
Meg Sheehan, committee member
Meg Works as youth development officer for Benalla Rural City Council. She is passionate about music and the arts. She has more than 10 years’ experience in event management and working with emerging and established musicians.
She believes the Wall to Wall Festival has the power to activate Benalla as a progressive space for young people in Victoria.
Lauren Wight, committee member
Lauren is the creator and owner of Aura Organica Australia.
She is a qualified beauty and massage therapist.
She describes herself as a lover of nature, art and music.
Zach Blake, committee member
Zach is a Benalla based artist who owns and operates a local independent studio gallery.
He brings a wealth of experience in public relations to the committee.
Alice Martin, committee member
Alice holds a Bachelor of Social Science (Psych) and was the Victorian Premier’s Rural Youth Volunteer of the Year in 2014.
She has more than 20 years of volunteer experience, including being a part of the Wall to Wall festival since 2015.
Alice works for the family business and is an amateur photographer and mother of two.
Bridget Evans, committee member
Bridget grew up in Benalla and is employed as an art teacher at Benalla P-12 College.
She is an art lover who is passionate about finding ways to include education in community projects.
Anna James, committee member
Anna has worked as a photographer in Benalla specialising in newborns.
She is also a nurse at North East Health Wangaratta as well as working as an event planner.
Anna is the coordinator of fundraising for the New Hope Children’s Centre in Uganda. She is also a mother of two. The committee also includes Tim Bowtell, David Joseph and Robyn Carnegie.
Ms Tharratt said the committee would like to say a special thankyou to Member for Northern Victoria Jaclyn Symes for assisting with state government funding.
‘‘We will be excited to release more information as the collaborative planning process with Judy Roller studios continues,’’ Ms Tharratt said.
