New trustees welcomed
The Benalla Young Sportsperson Trust welcomed two new trustees just in time for the new year.
Karen Edwards and Craig Carley were named BYST latest recruits at their annual general meeting in December.
Both new trustees have close links to the sporting community, with the new members also actively involved in student welfare.
Craig is a soccer coach for the Goulburn Valley Suns and a teacher at Benalla P-12 College, while Karen is a lecturer at Melbourne University’s Dookie Campus and has only recently left her role as president of the Benalla Netball Association.
Having heard about the BYST and the things the group has done during the past few years, Karen said she was keen to become involved.
Karen said she also knew first hand the expenses associated with having kids involved in representative sport.
‘‘It (BYST) provides a wonderful service and not many towns have something like this, so to help out in any way is something I am happy to do,’’ Karen said.
‘‘It’s a worthwhile charity because the out of pocket expenses families have associated with representative sport can be quite a burden and we want those kids to live their dreams.
‘‘There will always be something like this.
‘‘The money can be a big barrier and every little bit helps.’’
The BYST distributed $8500 to 20 recipients from a wide range of sports in 2018 alone.
Karen also called on any people or organisations to get on board to help the Benalla Young Sportsperson Trust in 2019.
‘‘Any support from all people and organisations would be great,’’ she said. kids that need
