Scouts on adventure
The Benalla Scout Group members have packed their bags and are in the midst of a trip to South Australia.
The Scouts have embarked on an 11-day journey to Tailem Bend to celebrate the 25th Australian Jamboree.
After leaving Benalla on January 3, the five scouts are being accompanied by leader Bruce Every and will spend time interacting with Scouts from across Australia.
The Australian Jamboree is held every three years in a different location and is open to scouts under 15.
Benalla’s very own scouts took part in the opening ceremony during the weekend, with the closing ceremony set to wrap up the trip for the 10 000 scouts ascending on South Australia.
Some of the activities on the Scouts’ agenda include camping under canvas, cooking, building, constructing and seeing the sights of Adelaide, while making some new friends along the way.
The scouts have so far also enjoyed abseiling, rock climbing, mud racing and learning to work as a team while switching off from technology and getting back to nature.
A visitors’ day is also scheduled for the scouts where they can share their stories with friends and family.
Benalla Scout parent Tracey Barrell said the Australian Jamboree focused on building leadership for the scouts.
‘‘Not enough kids are getting outside because of the growing technological world,’’ Ms Barrell said.
‘‘That is what Scouts is all about, having fun.’’
The Scout Group is set to arrive back in Benalla after their adventures on January 14.
