Clips reach 10k
St Joseph’s Primary School has just completed four weeks of motivational video clips recorded by sport stars from around the world.
The only question that remains is how Deputy Principal Leigh Symons can possibly top this initiative — which has been a big help to students throughout the pandemic.
‘‘The families and students have thoroughly enjoyed the daily shout outs,’’ Mr Symons said.
‘‘On Facebook alone there has been more than 10,000 views during the four weeks, (and) considerably more on Instagram.’’
Last week featured seven sporting celebrities and includes a couple of familiar faces to The Ensign: Clayton Oliver, AFL player; Hayley Wilson, Olympic skateboarder;
Becky Webster, AFLW player and former Benalla P-12 College student;
Erin Phillips, WNBA and AFLW player;
Nathan Brown, Former AFL player and current commentator;
Mark Howard, Host of The Howie Game podcast; and
Rob Adelberg, Benalla boy and X-Games gold medallist.
Carlton AFLW player Beck Webster told students that as a local girl she could relate to their experience of life in Benalla.
‘‘Benalla is awesome, it’s great, and the people are awesome as well,’’ she said.
‘‘Obviously it’s hard in these times not to be around friends and family, but we’ve just got to keep doing what we’re doing, and doing the right things.
‘‘I want to let you know that hopefully sooner rather than later this will be over and we will be back playing our community sports.
‘‘Make sure you keep practicing. Kick those goals, shoot those netballs, whatever it may be.
‘‘I know it’s difficult, but soon we’ll be back out there with our friends and family.’’
Rob Adelberg said he hoped everyone at St Joseph’s was doing okay.
‘‘I hope you’re all keeping happy and healthy at home,’’ he said.
‘‘And also that you’ve been applying yourselves and getting in a bit of learning.
‘‘It’s been a bit of a tricky time for everyone.
‘‘For me, I’ve missed out on quite a bit, and now that I think we’re going to open back up to some normality soon I need to apply myself and get stuck back in.
‘‘And I hope you can do the same.
‘‘When you can get back (to school) really apply yourselves (and) make every minute count.’’
