VT Community House given social funding

Violet Town community members now have access to weekly female exercise groups and improved computer room facilities at the Violet Town Community House.

The initiatives have been funded through Strathbogie Shire Council’s Community Activation and Social Isolation (CASI) program in conjunction with Violet Town Community House.

Violet Town Community House coordinator Lisa Jensen said participants had thoroughly enjoyed the exercise sessions to date.

“They really enjoy the movement aspect of the program,” Ms Jensen said.

“And they also like talking to one another, which has created a nice social environment as well . . . They can definitely feel the benefit.”

Ms Jensen said the mixture of ages between the participants had also encouraged the group to develop mentoring relationships with one another.

The initiative has been supported by Strathbogie Shire Council’s Community Connector Bill Boyer.

“This initiative is a fantastic use of Community Activation and Social Isolation (CASI) funding in partnership with the Violet Town Community House,” Mr Boyer said.

“We know that exercise, as well as social inclusion, has so many benefits to physical and mental health.”

Strathbogie Shire Mayor Chris Raeburn said the funding had also allowed for computer upgrades at the Violet

“This funding has ensured the Violet Town Community House remains a place that offers the community a space to feel welcomed where they can engage with a number of different activities,” Cr Raeburn said.

“Having an upgraded computer will ensure those who have been disconnected through COVID-19 can continue to stay in touch with their loved ones.”
