Purples give Saints a touch up

Benalla was on the wrong end of one-way traffic during Sunday’s round seven Northern Country Women’s League clash.

Facing competition heavyweight Nathalia in the Moira Shire, the Saints’ defence had the workout of their lives as the Purples throttled the visitors 16.14 (110) to 0.2 (2).

With a fortnight marking the distance between its last competitive outing, Benalla couldn’t match the initial pace set by Nathalia.

Coming off a 125-point rolling of Mooroopna in round six, the Purples started how they had finished the week before by shooting out to a five-goal buffer by quarter time.

And the onslaught didn’t stop there.

Abby Favaro starred with six majors as the hosts splits the sticks on eleven more occasions throughout the game’s remainder.

Tayla Dempster, Cody Power, Tegan Sutton and Ellen Pinnuck also chipped in with a pair each.

For the Saints, Phoebe Clarke was named the best contributor while Charlene Kupke and Emily displayed plenty of heart.

Benalla will have a shot at a rebound victory this Sunday when it takes on a winless Mooroopna outfit at the Cattery.
