Benalla upsets Euroa at home

-

Benalla delivered one of the upsets of the season with a 44-37 victory over Euroa in A-grade.

As momentum continues to build out of the Saints camp, Saturday’s triumph has lifted the side out from the Goulburn Valley League’s doldrums and into unchartered territory.

Leading at every quarter, Benalla extended its threegoal advantage at the first break to five with 15 minutes left to play.

From there it was a case of grinding out the win — which they most certainly did.

Despite being outscored by Euroa in the last, Benalla remained composed and applied scoring pressure of its own to see out the game by seven goals.

The win means the Saints now sit one game out of the top-six, dropping the Magpies into 10th spot on the ladder.

Down the list, Benalla’s B-grade contingent ripped the rug from beneath Euroa to clinch a stunning onegoal victory.

The sides couldn’t be separated at the half, but Benalla shot away in the third term to eventually claim all spoils 32-31.

Earlier, convincing was the nature in which the Saints’ B-reserve side stole points from the hosts 45-22.

And in the junior divisions, Benalla went down 30-28 in the 17-andunder contest while the 15-and-unders tasted success 49-18.
