Veronica on a cycle mission

- By Simon Ruppert

Benalla’s Veronica Bolton will cycle 300km in October to raise funds to help children fighting cancer.

She is taking part in the Great Cycle Challenge, which sees people of all ages and abilities set a personal riding goal and challenge themselves to pedal throughout October.

“It’s a challenge that runs every year that I have been keen to get involved in,” Ms Bolton said.

“I used to do a lot of cycling when I was younger, but we had kids and life got a bit busy. Now the kids are a bit older I’m starting to get back into riding and when the Great Cycling Challenge popped up in my Facebook feed it was a good motivator to get organised to do it this year.”

Veronica has a personal fundraising goal of $500, and is part of a team that has a target of $1000.

As of Monday, September 20, Veronica had already hit $227.71, and the team was sitting on $790.05.

“We’ve been training, but can’t start to log any of our kilometres until October,” Ms Bolton said.

“When we were locked down it was just riding in circles not going past the 5km from home.

“But now I’ve been taking the little one with me and have been riding about 10km to 20km each day.”

In the eight years since it started the Great Cycle Challenge has raised more than $27 million.
