Up, up and away
Ensign contributor Karl Phillipson was up at the crack of dawn on Friday, September 24, to join Goldrush Ballooning for a trip around Benalla Rural City, and the silo art trail.
Goldrush's Canola flights are conducted above the expansive bright yellow canola fields around the towns on the trail — Goorambat, Devenish, Dookie, and St James.
Last week Benalla Rural City Mayor Danny Claridge took a flight.
“This was my first time seeing the north east from a hot air balloon,” Cr Claridge said.
“The views were amazing.” Cr Claridge said it was fantastic that a tourism company had the confidence to launch these flights given the difficulties facing that industry throughout COVID-19.
“I think they can see there is a huge influx of people visiting the area,” he said.
“Then, of course, when they get out of the balloon at about 9am they can come into Benalla for breakfast.
“They might have stayed the night in one of our motels, and filled their car with petrol.
“Which is all great for Benalla.” ● Find out more about Goldrush Ballooning or book a flight at www.goldrushballooning. com.au/book-canola
