ARTC adds north access
The Australian Rail Track Corporation recently released updated plans for Benalla Station with a link to the north of the town.
This is another win for the consultation process with local lobby group Better Benalla Rail requesting access to the north as part of its Save our Station Campaign.
ARTC’s Victoria and South Australia projects general manager Ed Walker said during the last round of consultation the community told ARTC improved connectivity to the station precinct was a priority as part of any station modifications.
“To incorporate this feedback, we have updated our existing concept visual model to include an extended pedestrian connection across the station precinct,” Mr Walker said.
“Following previous consultation, we found there is clear support from Benalla locals for modifications, which includes realigning a portion of track at the station.
“We were pleased to confirm the progression of a realignment option following consultation last year, where we presented concept visual models displaying a track realignment, and now we’re looking to refine this option to make it better.
“ARTC remains committed to open and transparent consultation and active engagement to understand the community’s views relating to the projects we are responsible for delivering.
“Not only does Inland Rail deliver a freight solution to support the country’s future, but it’s critical to keep the national economy moving, particularly in regional areas where it will better link businesses to national and global markets and generate new opportunities.”
Better Benalla Rail chair Suzie Pearce said she looked forward to future discussion with Department of Tranport and ARTC on behalf of the Benalla community.
“A voice at the table is vital if a workable and functional Station Precinct design is to be created,” Ms Pearce said.
