Ellex Best makes long-awaited return to racing

- By James Kleeman

Benalla’s Ellexandra Best has made her highly anticipated return to racing, competing in the Haltech V8 SuperUte six round series as a support category for the V8 Supercars.

Best, who has not raced for two years, was over the moon to be back out on the track at last.

“I didn’t realise how much I missed racing until last round at Perth,” Best said.

“I definitely love the V8 power, I’m getting more comfortable with the power and the brake pressure that needs to be applied, coming in and out of a corner, it is so different to any other cars I have raced before.”

Prior to round two, Best spent some time at Dream Simulation working with Tickford Supercar driver Thomas Randle, concentrating on learning the Wanneroo track and her braking technique.

“Given I have never been to the track before, which will be most of the rounds this year, I really found the experience on the simulator extremely valuable,” she said.

“I worked with Tom on my braking technique, spent a lot of time reviewing data. So when I hit the track I knew exactly what I needed to do.”

Ellexandra secured three top 10 finishes at the recent Perth

Supernight.

In her last race, Best hit a wall, resulting in minor damage and a flat tyre, but was able to get the ute back to the pits and eventually resume the race.

Steering damage would hamper the Benalla speedster for the remainder of the race, and after beaching it at turn six, she was pulled out and resumed the race, but was classified as a non-finisher after not completing a sufficient amount of laps.

She currently sits 12th on the SuperUte series leaderboard ahead of her home round at Winton Motor Raceway from May 19 to 22.
