1. Food for thought

British Airways has cut its complimentary meal service in economy for domestic and short-haul international flights under five hours within Europe and the UK. Instead, sandwiches, sweet and savoury snacks and drinks from Marks & Spencer will be available to buy. One upside however, is you’ll have more choices.

2. Cruisy tap and go

Princess Cruises has unveiled the Ocean Medallion, a small circular device you can use on board to have drinks, meals, tours and other extras charged to your account. It can be carried in your pocket or worn on your wrist or around your neck. The medallion can also be synced to your mobile device and used to locate fellow cruisers.

3. Go boutique in Brisbane

Travelling to Queensland? Stay at the brand new Sage Hotel. Located in the trendy James Street precinct, the luxury accommodation offers standard to deluxe rooms, free wi-fi and there are plenty of dining options in and around the four-star property.

4. Easy domestic access

Another reason to head to Brissie: Qantas will be opening its premium lounge entry at Brisbane Domestic Terminal on 1 April. Special fast-track passengers can enjoy a convenient drop-off point, valet, bag drop and check-in services.

5. Abu Dhabi direct

From 9 June, Virgin Australia will start nonstop flights between Perth and Abu Dhabi on Airbus A330s. The early morning arrival means guests have time to connect with partner Etihad Airways flights to the Middle East, Europe, Africa and North America. The wide-body aircraft feature business class lie-flat beds with foam mattresses and plush bedding, topnotch meals and wines and large personal video screens.

6. Fly with just the basics

If you’re looking for inexpensive flights around the States, you’ll like this trend! The big three US carriers (American, United and Delta) have brought in a ‘basic economy fare’. To compete with low-cost airlines, they’ve dropped the price of tickets. There are restrictions, of course, but it’s still a top deal!
