While it’s technically a US event, National Hairball Awareness Day – the last Friday in April – is a day cat lovers the world over can observe. Looking glamorous is hard work for felines! Much of the fur your cat swallows while grooming builds up in the gut to form a hairball. This is even greater when cats shed in the spring and summer months – even short-haired cats are not immune! One or two hairballs a year is pretty normal, but if you’re seeing more, it might be time for a check-up. Ready to help minimise your cat’s hacking and yakking, every day of the year? Try these easy ideas:

Regularly groom your cat with a pet brush to reduce the amount of loose hair.

Consider supplements rich in omega-3 and 6 fatty acids to help reduce shedding. Speak to your vet about a hairball prevention diet, which contains natural vegetable fibres.
