TRADIE tips

There are things you can’t do yourself and that’s when you’ll have to call in the pros. Here are a few ways to make the whole process more efficient and reduce the hit to the hip pocket at the same time.

• Avoid the tradie run-around. Go with recommendations from friends and family of people who will not only turn up but also do a great job.

• If getting quotes, write out a list of the jobs you want done, including any

fittings you’ll be supplying. That way all your quotes will be based on the same info and you can easily compare with no nasty surprises later.

• Tally up all the jobs you need a tradesman to do so they can all be done at once. This will avoid extra call-out fees, which are usually charged every time a tradie turns up.

• Find out if there are any jobs you can do yourself to cut down the cost. For example, running cables for electricians, digging trenches for plumbers or cleaning and getting rid of rubbish.
