SEAL YOUR GUTTERS

Better Homes and Gardens (Australia) - - Home Maintenance -

Gutters take quite a beating over winter. Fallen leaves clog them up and, without regular cleaning, the debris will end up corroding your gutters and leading to leaks. Thankfully sealing up leaking gutters is easier than ever.

STEP 1 Clear out any leaves in gutter. Wear gloves and make sure your ladder is stable.

STEP 2 Run a hose in the gutters and downpipes to find any source of leaks. For fine cracks and larger holes alike, use Selleys Roof and Gutter Spray Seal. On larger holes, start by sticking supplied adhesive mesh patches over hole.

STEP 3 Spray the sealant over and around the mesh patches. Leave to dry then check for any gaps in the mesh and reapply if necessary.

STEP 4 To prevent leaves and twigs getting into your downpipes and blocking them, install a leaf guard in gutter at top of downpipe.
