You will need

• 50cm solid emer­ald green fab­ric

• 20cm solid light yel­low fab­ric

• 17 – fat quar­ters as­sorted solid colours

• 3 – 40cm pieces as­sorted solid colours

• 2.8 me­tres solid off white

• 3 me­tres solid grey for blocks and bind­ing

• Back­ing fab­ric

• Bat­ting

Cut­ting fab­ric

From solid emer­ald green, solid light yel­low and as­sorted solid colour yardages, cut 48 sets of:

1 – 2½ x 5 inch rec­tan­gle

1 – 17∕8 x 35 inch strip

1 – 17∕8 x 29 inch strip From solid off white, cut:

48 – 17∕8 x 35 inch strips

48 – 2½ x 5 inch strips From solid grey, cut:

8 – 2½ x WOF for bind­ing

48 – 17∕8 x 29 inch strips

As­sem­bling

STEP 1 Gather a set of pieces (17∕8 x 35, 17∕8 x 29 and 2½ x 5 inch strips) from one solid colour.

STEP 2 Sew to­gether the solid colour 17∕8 x 35 inch strip and one solid off white 17∕8 x 35 inch strip along the long edges to make strip set A (Di­a­gram 1). Press seams away from solid off white. Cut strip set A into 2 – 11 inch long A seg­ments 1 – 8 inch long A seg­ment 1 – 3 inch long A seg­ment.

STEP 3 Sew to­gether the solid colour 17∕8 x 29 inch strip and a solid grey 17∕8 x 29 inch strip along the long edges to make strip set B (Di­a­gram 2). Press seam to­wards darker fab­ric. Cut strip set B into 2 – 9 inch long B seg­ments and 1 – 6 inch long B seg­ment.

STEP 4 Re­fer­ring to di­a­gram 3, sew to­gether 3 inch long A seg­ment and 6 inch long B seg­ment. Press seam to­wards B seg­ment. STEP 5 Re­fer­ring to Di­a­gram 4, sew the 8 inch long seg­ment to left-hand edge of Step 4 unit. Press seams away from the just added A seg­ment. STEP 6 In same man­ner, al­ter­nately add 9 inch long B seg­ments to top edge of Step 5 unit and 11 inch long A seg­ments to left-hand edge of Step 5 unit (Di­a­gram 5). Al­ways press seams to­wards B seg­ment and away from A seg­ments. STEP 7 Re­fer­ring to Di­a­gram 6, sew the solid colour 2½ x 5 inch rec­tan­gle to top edge of Step 6 unit, plac­ing it 3¼ inch from left-hand edge. Add a solid off white 2½ x 5 inch rec­tan­gle to left-hand edge of Step 6 unit, plac­ing it 3¼ inch from top edge. Press seams to­wards rec­tan­gles. STEP 8 Re­fer­ring to Di­a­gram 7, trim unit to 10½ inches square in­clud­ing seam al­lowances to make a block. If you’d like your blocks to be con­sis­tent, pre­cise place­ment of your ruler is im­por­tant. STEP 9 Re­peat steps to make a to­tal of 48 blocks.

Assem­ble quilt top

STEP 10 Lay out blocks in eight hor­i­zon­tal rows, ro­tat­ing blocks as de­sired. Sew to­gether blocks in each row. Press seams in one di­rec­tion.

STEP 11 Join rows to make quilt top

Fin­ish quilt

Re­fer to quilt­ing ba­sics.
