The way we were... Take a trip down memory lane and see how you cooked, decorated and lived

You’ve got to love the era that brought us the peacock headboard (first time around!)

Better Homes and Gardens (Australia) - - Contents -

During this time our homes were as bold as our clothes, from wall-to-wall primary colours and avocado bathroom suites to a riot of patterns. You’d find embellished wallpaper, sofas, blinds and floor tiles all in one space! Browns and burnt orange, panelled timber and rattan ruled our rooms.

The backyard was no wallflower either, packed with more potted plants than a garden centre. ‘More is more’ was our styling tip, as BHG turned stark courtyards into lovely living spaces. The concept (but not the name) of the ‘outdoor room’ was born.

Moulded furniture makes plastic fantastic.

We love the extreme colour coordination.

Potty over plants, like we are today.

Exotic fare ’70s style.
