Welcome to September
Because we love to share everything with you, now share with us – we have to move, feel our pain! Grrr...
we’ve been organising a move to another floor for months now. And you can imagine the amount of ‘stuff’ we have; the decorating people house paint chips, tins, brushes, fabrics, wallpapers. The craft editor has more yarns, fabrics, papers, scissors and cottons than you’ve ever seen. The garden department has as many flora dictionaries, and landscaping and plant books as the National Library. Screwdrivers, sandpaper, hammers and drills spill out all over the floor of the DIY space. Baking papers, cookbooks, pans and even ingredients crowd the food editor. And none of these begin to describe the number of bits, pieces and more that sit layer upon layer on each editor’s desk. It’s a thriving jungle of what we use to bring the magazine to you each month with all its ideas, inspiration and information.
Then there’s my office, and I love it! In it sits over 30 years of awards, files, cards, pictures, personal effects, furniture, rugs, gifts, flowers and just so many ‘things’ that reflect and highlight a most wonderful time with beautiful BHG. It’s been a joy to sit amongst all that paraphernalia every day. Even pictures of my mother, father and sister smile down at me, along with our fabulous dog, all who have now been gone for some time. And by golly, I’m ‘feeling’ the move!
Then comes the directive: get rid of as much as you can, you all need to seriously divest. Ouch! Two types of people emerge: those who can throw out anything without even a twitch. And those who cannot let go of even one ribbon without grief. (I, of course, am the latter – damn!) So the angst of moving is with us right now. We’ll be over it by next month but for a minute, just stress along with us. Then let the good times roll all over again with just a few less things. Hmm...
Not patchworked before? Now’s the time with our gorgeous quilt. Nothing better than stitchin’ and bitchin’ with quality friends and before you know it you’ll be addicted.
Gotta love that!
