the eyes have been called the windows to the soul for a very good reason – your peepers communicate so much about what you’re thinking and feeling. They’re also what you focus on when you’re talking to someone. So what better reason is there to make yours more beautiful? It doesn’t take much and, who knows, they may become your new best feature.

1 ILLUMINATE THE ZONE

Highlighters reflect light and make the skin look smoother. When applied to natural high points, such as the tops of cheeks and brow bones, they give them a lift. An illuminating concealer is also ideal for reducing dark circles. Start from the inner corner of the eye and blend down towards the top of each cheek. TRY Watt’s Up! Highlighter, $53, Benefit; Dream Lumi Touch Concealer, $17.95, Maybelline New York.

2 NURTURE THE SKIN

Treat the area around your eyes very gently and apply an eye cream daily. Divide a pea-size amount between ring fingers and pat over your orbital bones, stopping halfway in. TRY Revitalift Laser X3 Eye Cream, $44.95, L’oreal Paris; Rapid Dark Circle Repair Eye Cream, $34.90, Neutrogena.

3 DRAW THE LINE

Eyeliner will effectively make your lashes look thicker, with or without the addition of mascara. Choose a liquid liner if you want to create a distinct line or blend a dark pencil along your top lashes for a softer effect. TRY Kohl Pencil, $8.99, Models Prefer; Colour Chameleon in Black Diamond, $37, Charlotte Tilbury.

4 FRAME THEM UP

Styled brows not only provide frames for your eyes, they make you look more refreshed and youthful. Even thin, sparse brows will do the job with the addition of a little brow pencil or powder. TRY Mechanical

Eyebrow Duo, $14.95, Natio; Easy Breezy Sculpt + Brow Pomade, $16.95, Covergirl.

5 PLAY WITH SHADES

Soft shadows applied to your lids and into socket creases add brightness, whereas a blend of darker and mid-tone shades adds drama. For guidance, look for a palette with instructions on colour placement. TRY Rose Nude Eyeshadow Palette, $12.99, Models Prefer; Smoky Eyes Eyeshadow Makeup Case, $17.99, Profusion.

6 FLUTTER THOSE LASHES

Mascara is one way to make your lashes look thicker, but another great option is false lashes. They’re easier than they’ve ever been to put on and the more you wear them, the more you’ll love them. TRY Volume Starter Kit 101, $13.99, Eylure; True Volume Lashes Chic, $8.99, Kiss; Natural Lashes, $9.49, 1000 Hour Lashes.

7 LOOK REFRESHED

Avoid looking tired by reducing any redness above and below your eyes. A quick and easy fix is to apply a touch of concealer to your lids and, for under your lower lashes, run a line of concealer over the area and blend gently.

TRY Under Eye Cushion Concealer, $17.95, Natio; Signature Essentials Beauty Sleep Eye Brightener, $8.95, Ulta3.
