GARDENING TIPS
Arches made from metal have a long lifespan and require less maintenance than timber. They’re ideal for supporting heavy climbing plants.
Painted timber arches make a lovely entrance feature. Plant them with non-clinging climbers that can be pulled back for repainting. For a more practical than ornamental design, consider making one from black plastic water pipe and growing climbing vegetables or fruit over it.
For an interesting effect, join two arches together and plant with roses or wisteria, to create a tunnel of blooms.
If you’re handy, craft one from natural materials, such as willow or bamboo.
