STEP 1 Cleanse and ex­fo­li­ate

Mix a pump of hand wash with a dessert­spoon of hand scrub and gen­tly mas­sage all over both hands. Con­tinue for about a minute. Rinse with luke­warm water.

STEP 2 Tidy cu­ti­cles and nails While your skin is soft, gen­tly push back cu­ti­cles us­ing a cu­ti­cle pusher or the flat tip of an orange stick wrapped with cot­ton wool. Trim ex­cess or torn skin. File your nails into an oval shape, with­out fil­ing down the sides of your nails. TRY Ev­ery­day Strength, $9.95, Sally Hansen; Cu­ti­cle Clip­pers, $29.95, Mani­care.

STEP 3 Ap­ply hand cream Mas­sage the cream into ev­ery fin­ger, in­clud­ing your nails and over the backs of your hands. Next, slip on a pair of cot­ton gloves for five to 10 min­utes while it ab­sorbs. Now’s a good time to en­joy a cup of tea. STEP 4 De­grease nails

Wet a cot­ton pad with pol­ish re­mover to re­move cream from your nails be­fore ap­ply­ing nail pol­ish. To pre­vent nails from be­ing stained by the pol­ish, first ap­ply a base coat.
