Butterflies FOR NEAT FREAKS

Better Homes and Gardens (Australia) - - Garden Shortcuts -

Mighty yet miniature, a new buddleja has been designed for small gardens or awkward corners where space can be at a premium.

Instead of sending out its splendid sprays and gorgeous cascades of tightly knit, sweetly scented flowers over several metres, the new Buzz series keeps itself neat by growing no more than 1.5 metres, even smaller if kept in a pot.

But the impact is still spectacular, and the colours particularly intense, coming in ‘Velvet’, ‘Sky Blue’, ‘Midnight’, ‘Hot Raspberry’ and ‘Wisteria Lane’.

This butterfly bush, as it’s commonly known, still fulfils its old-fashioned job, attracting bees and butterflies to the sweet, honey-scented clusters of flowers that keep appearing from spring through to autumn.

Pretty as a picture, but tough as nuts, buddleja is salt tolerant, copes with some shade, and grows in most soil types, especially pots. And now there’s no middle-aged spread!

Enjoy the beautiful sprays of the tiny, sweet-smelling flowers of the Buddleja‘Buzz’ series without sacrificing the space this plant normally commands.
