Move over grey, dark emerald green is so hot right now! But choosing the right shade for cabinetry isn’t quite as easy as updating your wardrobe. Give it plenty of thought before deciding on a shade, as you’ll be living with it for the foreseeable future.

There’s nothing bland about this kitchen. Go for broke and play up its traditional roots with brass lighting, hardware, power points and switch plates. Wire stools are a nod to modern styling.

Use a variety of surfaces to break up the green. Try a combination of wood and beautifully veined marble benches. Turn to a staple for the splashback – white subway tiles, laid in brick formation.

Strong yet soothing, a deep dark green will have you rolling up your sleeves and cooking up a storm. If emerald or forest green doesn’t do it for you, go for a subtle grey-green.

What to colour your walls? Well, white is the obvious answer. However, the barest hint of mint will provide the necessary contrast to make this kitchen sing.
