There’s more to it than just the tank itself. Here are a few other things you need to think about when looking into a tank for your home.

■ A SOLID BASE under your tank is essential. Compacted sand or concrete pavers on a firm base are fine for small tanks, but larger tanks will need a concrete slab.

■ WHEN YOU’RE MEASURING UP for your tank, don’t forget to check that it will fit through any gates or down any

paths on the way to its final location.

■ YOUR TANK WILL NEED A PUMP, so don’t forget to include that in your costing. If you’re connecting your tank to toilets or a laundry, you’ll need a model that switches over to mains water if the tank runs dry – which will need to be installed by a plumber. n
